Large Scale Landscape Painting on Canvas with Acrylics
Monday 16th February - Friday 20th February 10am-4pm*

A week of painting on a large scale on stretched Canvas.
Using the Art Club archive of landscape images for inspiration, we will have an experience of painting on a large scale. Exploring how to add mood and meaning to your painting with line and colour. Using bigger brush strokes to loosen up your mark-making style and further develop your unique self-expression in painting. With tutor demos showing saturated colour fields and blends, and how to add texture and expressive marks using acrylic mediums and palette knives.
Schedule: Morning session: 10am – 12pm
Lunch: 12pm – 1 pm (*please bring a packed lunch or visit local cafés such as Di Giorgios)
Afternoon session: 1pm – 4pm

Introduction to Oil Painting
Monday 13th April - Friday 17th April 10am-4pm*

This course is aimed those who have been interested in trying oil painting for the first time, who are looking to build their confidence and knowledge of the medium. Oils are one of the most rewarding and versatile types of paint, but not the easiest to get started with at home. This course offers an extended period to immerse yourself in the process and leave with paintings to be proud of. The tutor will guide you through every step, from the essential properties of the materials to a variety of painting approaches inspired by the Old Masters, French Impressionists, Scottish Colourists, and more. Students will learn step by step approaches to creating oil paintings in varied subject areas, including landscape and still life, covering common challenges and how to overcome them. It is a great introduction and opportunity to dip your toes in before investing in your own materials, and there will be plenty of time to experiment and receive guidance on what is required to continue your practice at home.

Botanical Paint & Print
Monday August 10th - Friday August 14th 10am-4pm*
This week-long course will explore the beauty of botanical flora and foliage with a contemporary vision. Using watercolour and acrylic paints, students will be shown how to create form and use colour effectively and with confidence. Several studies will be produced with finished pieces, to create a collection of hangable art. The week will also cover gel printing techniques, which are fun and very accessible, but produce stunning results. Starting with foliage and flower prints then adding layers of colour to produce sophisticated prints quickly and easily. A satisfying course with lots of take-home results. There will also be opportunities to work outdoors at the Botanic Gardens, full of inspiration and a useful resource for collecting fallen foliage.Schedule: Morning session: 10am – 12pm

Introduction to Watercolours
Monday August 24th - Friday August 28th 10am-4pm*
An intensive week, to learn and build confidence in a variety of watercolour techniques and their uses through in depth tutor demonstrations, before putting them into practice in a series of guided watercolour studies. There will be plenty of opportunities to experiment with the materials and ask questions, looking at colour mixing, brush types and a range of methods for applying the paint, from soft wet in wet washes to expressive mark making and texture. Subjects covered will include luminous landscapes and delicate botanical studies. Students will be encouraged to identify their own area of interest for the creation of a final piece, with one-to-one support from beginning to end. There will also be opportunities to work outdoors at the Botanic Gardens, full of inspiration for both landscape and botanical work.Schedule: Morning session: 10am – 12pm

Mastering Portraits
Monday August 31st - Friday September 4th 10am-4pm*

This week focuses on understanding portraiture, covering all essential ingredients to create confident portraits. With an emphasis on proportion, colour and expression with confident use of paint. Working from observation and reference images, participants will explore how to build a portrait through colour, tone, and brushwork, considering both structure and mood. The extended format allows time to develop essential skills then produce a portrait over several unhurried sessions, encouraging enjoyable and expressive results.Open to all levels, the workshop supports both careful study and more expressive approaches, producing several small studies and one finished personal piece on canvas, by the end of the week.
