Our adult term courses are designed for all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced artists. Taught in small groups in our welcoming studio, these sessions give you the chance to explore different mediums, learn new techniques and enjoy the process of creating art.

Expressive Landscapes
Mondays 10am-12pm
with Hayley Whittingham
This expressive landscape course explores both rural and urban environments, encouraging students to interpret the world around them through colour, composition and expressive mark-making. From sweeping countryside views to architectural details and changing light, the focus is on developing fresh and imaginative responses to landscape.
Throughout the term, students will experiment with a range of materials and techniques while exploring brushwork, texture, layering and surface. Tutor demonstrations and guided studio practice provide opportunities to strengthen core skills, build confidence and develop a more personal approach to painting. Over the course participants will create a varied body of work inspired by the landscapes explored each week.
Balancing observation with creative exploration, the course offers a supportive environment in which to refine technique, experiment with new ideas and enjoy the process of making expressive landscape work.

Contemporary Still Life
Mondays 7pm-9pm
with Ursula Bevan-Hunter
Discover fresh approaches to still life through expressive colour, bold composition and creative experimentation. Drawing inspiration from a range of artistic styles and contemporary practices, this course encourages students to look beyond traditional representation and explore new ways of interpreting familiar subjects.
Working with a variety of materials and techniques, students will investigate texture, pattern and surface while developing confidence in drawing and painting. Weekly projects and tutor demonstrations provide opportunities to experiment, refine key skills and create imaginative responses to carefully arranged still life compositions.

Develop confidence across a range of drawing and painting techniques while exploring a variety of inspiring subjects, from still life and landscape to urban sketching and beyond. This skills-based course encourages both observation and creative experimentation, helping students strengthen their artistic practice in a supportive studio environment.

Face, Form & Colour

Explore the face alongside a variety of inspiring subjects through drawing and painting, with a focus on observation, colour and expressive mark-making. This course encourages students to develop confidence in capturing form, structure and character while experimenting with creative approaches to composition and surface.
Throughout the term, tutor demonstrations and guided projects will introduce a range of materials and techniques, helping students strengthen key artistic skills while exploring line, tone, texture and colour. Subjects may range from natural scenery to urban sketching, with opportunities to explore both observational and more expressive styles.

The course encourages creative exploration alongside the strengthening of core artistic skills in a relaxed and supportive studio environment.

Watercolour Development
Fridays 10am-12pm
with Leigh Roberts
Designed for students looking to strengthen their watercolour practice, this course explores a variety of techniques and approaches while encouraging confidence, creativity and technical refinement. Projects will draw inspiration from landscape, buildings and the changing effects of light, making the most of watercolour’s unique ability to capture atmosphere, movement and subtle shifts in colour.
Through tutor demonstrations and guided exercises, participants will explore washes, layering, composition and expressive use of colour while continuing to build control and confidence in their work. There will also be opportunities to experiment with complementary techniques and creative processes that enhance the versatility of watercolour.
Over the term, students will create a varied body of work before bringing together the skills and ideas explored into a more resolved final piece that reflects their own artistic interests and development.

Our popular 10-week courses are open to all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced artists. We take a step-by-step, demonstrated approach, introducing varying techniques in the first few weeks before working towards a final piece. Support and advice are given throughout, so each step is understood and confidence grows.
